Our working method to guarantee quality asphalt paving

1 - Excavation
We excavate the zone to a minimum depth of 35 cm (14 inches). If the soils are clayey, the excavation will be of 45 cm (18 inches) minimum. In the latter case, we will add a geotextile membrane between the soil and the granular base. Therefore, the foundation will not mix with the clay and the result will be stable. This technique will also prevent the risks of cracks, holes or potholes.

2 - Foundation preparation
A drainage slope is put in place to ensure adequate drainage. The hole is filled with gravel of MG20 type (0-3/4 in). The soil is then compacted to ensure its long-term stability.

3 - Asphalting
We apply a layer of asphalt of 2 inches minimum (after compaction) on the entire zone. According to the type of use intended, we use different asphalt mixes for residential projects. The EB-10 C and the CH-10 have good esthetic finishes and are ideal for normal loads. The EB-10S with larger pores is used for heavier loads (trucks, RVs…).

4 - Compaction
The asphalt is compacted to ensure density and strength. This step is crucial and will enable avoiding any sagging and cracking in the short or medium term. Compaction will also make the pavement less porous.

Did you know?

You should wait at least 72 hours before using your new asphalt parking area. It will take that long to allow sufficient cooling of the pavement. Before this period, you could risk distorting it or making tire marks.

If you just finished building your house, you should wait one year before undertaking asphalting works. It will also give the land some time to stabilize.

The slope of a driveway should be of at least 2% to avoid any risk of water build-up. If it is not possible to perform a sufficient difference in level, a drainage system will have to be added.

It is not recommended to perform asphalt paving works in the winter. Low temperatures will prevent it from adequately compacting. Thus, the finish will be porous, will be subject to water infiltrations and hence, to early cracking and sagging.

To increase the longevity and ensure the beauty of your asphalt paving, you can have it sealed with bitumen, acrylic or epoxy treatment.

It is possible to clean oil and gasoline spots on asphalt. However, be careful not to use any solvent, acid or alcohol. Instead, use a specialized product or mild soap.

Patching consists in repairing damaged asphalt areas. It can only be done on a granular base that is in good condition. For lasting reparation, the damaged zone must be cut with a saw or levelling instrument, then a binding agent is applied on the wall junctions and the asphalt is laid according to regulations.

If your asphalt is old and damaged, but that the foundations are good, it is possible to perform resurfacing. This technique allows putting back asphalt on existing pavement. However, this operation cannot be done if the pavement debonds or if there is a level constraint. The result could be catastrophic. Do not hesitate to contact us, we will be happy to share our expertise.

The side edges of a parking space are not only esthetic; they prevent the pavement from cracking on the edges and improve water drainage. Asphalt mixes are 100% recyclable
